Snow Plowing In Green Isle and Parking On City Streets After Any 2″ Snowfall
Snow plowing will be done each time it snows 2″ or more. The city has an Ordinance (#2008-03) making it illegal to park on city streets or in public parking lots after any 2″ snowfall. Snowbirds will be ticketed, and possibly towed at the owner’s expense.
The City received numerous complaints from residents, in 2007, that the contractor was not plowing “curb to curb”. According to the contractor, they were staying somewhat away from the curb to avoid causing possible damage to mailboxes or sodded yards. The contractor will now plow curb to curb and any damage to mailboxes or sodded yards will not be the responsibility contractor or the City, but will be the responsibility of the resident for repair of any damage. The contractor will do their very best to avoid damage to mailboxes and sodded yards, but wanted the residents to know that if damage does occur, the resident will be responsible for all repair costs.
Waste Management Garbage & Recycling
Garbage and recycling services are provided to Green Isle city residents through a city contract. Garbage pick up is every Monday and recycling is every other Monday. Should a national holiday fall on a Monday, garbage pick up services will be done on Tuesday instead. Residents of the city should follow the GOLD WEEK schedule for recycling weeks. Prior to disposal, please rinse out all recycle items that contained liquids or food.
Remember to place your cans at the end of your driveway in such a way that they do not block the access to your mail box. On recycling weeks, the two cans should be placed 2-3 feet apart to allow for the mechanical arm to easily grab one can without tipping over or damaging the other can. All cans should be placed with the WHEELS and lid hinges next to the curb and the lid opening facing the street.
Because garbage services are provided through a city contract with Waste Management, they will only accept direction or changes from the City. Should you need your garbage or recycling can replaced, due to damage, please call City Hall at 507.326.3901 to report the damage. All Replacement Cans are delivered on THURSDAYS, so if your can is going to be replaced, please leave the damaged can at the curbside after the garbage has been picked up on Monday.
If you are moving, your utility billing account will remain open and continue to bill to you until the home is sold. Please note that billing for garbage services cannot be stopped or removed from the account until the account has a ZERO balance and the cans have been left at curbside for Waste Management to remove.
Recycling Roll-Off Container for RURAL Residents
The City provides a recycling roll-off container the SECOND Tuesday of each month for use by RURAL residents (outside the city limits) to dispose of their recycling materials since they do not have curbside recycling available to them. The container will arrive in Green Isle no later than 9:00 a.m. on the SECOND TUESDAY of each month and will be removed by noon the next day.
The residents of the City will continue to have curbside recycling every other week per the GOLD schedule, but are welcome to place any overflow of recycle items in the roll-off container, if desired.
